Off Page SEO – How to Get Backlinks

Offpage SEO is basically linkbuilding in my opinion. This is when you build links pointing back to your website. My tips when it comes to building backlinks is to vary, vary, vary.
  • Vary the anchor text that you use to link to your website.
  • Vary the types of links you get. Nofollow, dofollow, low PR, high PR, contextual, raw link, etc.
  • Vary your linkbuilding techniques.
Ok, so even though I said to vary this and that, when it comes to effective linkbuilding, you would want to try to get a lot of high quality dofollow links with your keyword as the anchor text. This will take a lot of time and probably money too depending on how competitive the keyword(s) you are trying to rank for.
The reason I said vary this is that is because you actually want your backlink profile to look as natural as possible. Many will probably not agree with me on all the varying stuff but this is what I do when I build backlinks while also trying to get in those high quality backlinks. This is what I recommend you do as well.

How to Get Backlinks

Now that you know what you should do when it comes to offpage SEO, your next step would be to actually get some backlinks pointing to your website. There are a bunch of ways to get backlinks so you should have no problem getting backlinks at all.
Before I go into the methods, I want to go ahead and state some of the best types of links to build to your websites.
  • Links coming from .edu and .gov websites
  • Links coming from high page rank, dofollow pages
  • Contextual links that include your keyword
  • Links coming from pages with low OBL (outbound links)
  • Links coming from relevant pages
If you can get a bunch of these types of links, you will have a fairly easy time ranking in the top results for your keyword(s). So, here are some of the ways that you can build backlinks.
Social bookmarking Websites
Submit your site to social bookmarking websites. You can automate this process for free by using OnlywireSocialMarker or you can invest in a tool such as BookmarkingDemon which gives you a lot more options and websites to work with. or
Article Directories
Submit articles to article directories which would allow you to leave a link back to your website. You can manually submit these articles to the top directories or invest in a tool that will allow you to blast out articles to many different article directories at once such as UAW and Article Marketing Robot.
Blog/Article Networks
Submit articles to blog networks. Your article which would include a link back to your website will be posted on many different blogs within the network which usually consists of decent PR blogs that are dofollow.
You can try Free Traffic System which is free, you can pay for a subscription to such networks such as Article Ranks and BuildMyRank (Free Trial Available), or you could build your own blog network which will take time and money but pay off in the end if done correctly.
Blog Comments
Submit comments on other blogs related to your website. I don’t recommend automating this process. If you want to speed up this process, buy a good blog comment list which consists of high page rank dofollow blogs and outsource the comment posting to someone else or do it yourself.
You can find such lists in the buy/sell/trade area of a few webmaster forums such as WickedFire. As I always say when it comes to commenting, don’t spam.
Forum Profile Links
Although most people say that these types of links are worthless, many say that they do indeed work. I have used them before but I cannot say for sure if they helped a lot because I always use different types of links.
In any case, you can register for high page rank forums and fill out the profile leaving a link back to your website. They index these profiles and it will count as a backlink.
Try Fivver, webmaster forums, or freelance websites if you would like to outsource this process.
Angela & Paul Type Links
If you are new to seo and backlinking, you probably do not know what I am talking about but many people know of these types of links if they have been in the backlinking game for a while.
In any case, you are basically joining high page rank websites and leaving your website link in the profiles of these sites. When your profile gets indexed, you will get a backlink. The idea is that the high page rank of the main website carries some weight to the backlink even though the actual link is found on a page that carries no page rank but is dofollow.
As stated earlier, you can outsource these types of links.
Forum Posting
Instead of just dropping your link in the profile of a forum, it is better to actually contribute on the forum making sure to have a signature intact which includes a link to your website. Forums get indexed fairly quickly so you could have some quick backlinks pointing to your website.
Web 2.0 Sites
There are countless number of web 2.0 websites out there where you can create content and link to your website. Just Google a list of web 2.0 websites and start submitting content to them which includes a link back to your website.
Yes, you can automate this process too by using software such as Senuke X – which actually does a lot more than just submitting to web 2.0 sites. However, I would recommend doing it manually if you have the time or maybe even outsourcing to other places to save money.
Directory Submissions
This particular method may or may not be effective but it is a way to get backlinks. Submit your site to different website directories, most which are free. Just google a list and start submitting or outsource it.
Videos
Create some videos and submit them to video sharing websites making sure to include your website in the description. It only helps to submit to video sites that allow live urls in the description.
Link Exchanges
Exchange links with other website owners that have relevant websites. Try to go for the 3 way link exchanges where you add their link to your website and they add your link to another website of theirs that you are not linking to on your own website.
Rss Feed Submissions
This is not as effective as other methods but a backlink is a backlink. Find a decent size list of rss feed directories and submit your website feed to them. This can be outsourced as well.
Reverse Engineer Your Competitors
Take a look at your competitors backlinks and grab their links. You can use Yahoo Site Explorer and plug in their site and find some of their backlinks. They are ranking high partly because of those backlinks. If you can’t get those exact backlinks, try to get some similar or better than those backlinks.
Quality Content
Of all the backlink methods, this one is the most white hat. If you provide quality content on your website, people will link to your website naturally.
So, now you know how to get backlinks to your website. Remeber to try to get quality backlinks.
Also, even though I did mention backlink products, you do not have to rely on any of those tools to get backlinks. It may take a lot of time and effort to find and get those types of backlinks but it can be done for completely free and manual.
Before I go, I want to mention some further resources for you that I use to help me get backlinks.
